COMPARING TENNIS COACHING APPS AND SITES

Which one is right for you?

By Rich Neher

CONTEXT: I've been watching many tennis apps on the market for quite some time. We have also reported about some in the past. Many come up with a lot of hype and promises but can they actually deliver? It was decided to make it a 3-part series comparing apps. Last month, we were looking at Tennis Club Management Apps promising to run many or most of the functions in your club. This month we'll examine Coaching Apps and Sites and in November we'll look at apps that mainly Connect Players.

Trying to set up the criteria for comparing 'Coaching Apps and Sites' we were trying to figure out what's really important for our readers. From a long list of possible criteria, we narrowed it down to 8.

1. We wanted to know whether the app is readily available in the marketplace.

2. How many installations are there approximately?

3. What Platform is offered? IOS - Android - Desktop

4. Is the App/Site for Players, Coaches, or both?

5. How much do they charge each user?

6. Can Coaches make money with the App/Site??

7. What are the future plans and enhancements by the owners?

AppStore-and-GooglePlay-Buttons.jpg

We had originally sent above 7 questions to 12 owners. That in itself is often a difficult task because you have to be Sherlock Holmes to find them. I personally would not deal with an app or a site that doesn't identify who owns or manages it. Only 7 replied. Too bad.

Five sites/apps didn't reply:

Ultimate Tennis Coach

Expert Connect

Coach Tube

Coach Now

Tennis Zone

Two sites/apps didn't want to be included:

Broudy Tennis - Not quite sure why. Jack Broudy has put some good courses with tons of videos for players on the site. And I understand coaches are his clients, too. https://www.broudytennis.com/

Mouratoglou E-Coaching - That's too bad. Beautiful site and IOS app. I zoomed with his Communication and PR Director Marie Feichtinger and she pointed out that Patrick has other priorities right now and doesn't want to focus on his app. https://mouratoglou-ecoaching.com/

Five sites/apps replied with detailed information:

Tennis Drills TV

Full Court Tennis

SevenSix

Top Court

Apeak Tennis

Kudos to Jorge Capestany (Tennisdrills), Brian Teacher (Full Court Tennis), and Trond Kittelsen (SevenSix) who did not hesitate to send the answers to our questions.

No app is like the other. Many have good features which is another reason why it's sad some didn't reply.

Note: We did not want to look at the comparison from a 'Winner' point of view to find out which app is the 'Best' but rather aimed to compare what each app is capable of. You can read it and make up your own mind if you want to get in touch with that vendor for more information or a demo.

We started with a simple table listing capabilities and then go a little more detailed into the app and who's behind it.

Coaches love using TopCourt to learn different perspectives on the game. Learning new drills that they can implement with their players, or as a tool to help with their on-court coaching.

The mission of Full Court Tennis is to give players at all levels of the sport instant and seamless access to great coaching. Players can self-learn by following and interacting with coaches on our Full Court Feed or by hiring a coach for in-app virtual lessons.

1. When did you come out with your App/Site?

Launched in mid March of 2022.

2. Do you offer desktop/IOS/Android as platforms?

FCT is on iOS and available as a desktop website FullCourtTennis. Users must have a mobile account to sign into the website.

FCT is scheduled to start building Android before year-end.

3. How many users do you have approximately?

User numbers are immaterial. Why?

Every Coach has the ability to send out from the FCT app an invite for anyone (ios at the moment) to download Full Court Tennis app both from email or phone contacts via text message. Every Coach should be using the FCT app daily while on the court teaching lessons to look at their student's technique and compare it side by side to those in our FCT Pro Library - see the issues and immediately get back to work.

4. Is the App/Site for Players, Coaches, or both?

FCT features ATP and WTA coaches however, FCT is for all Coaches and Players at every level of the game.

Coaches love using TopCourt to learn different perspectives on the game. Learning new drills that they can implement with their players, or as a tool to help with their on-court coaching. Learning from Paul Annacone’s experience coaching Roger Federer and Pete Sampras is a favorite among coaches.

5. How much does the App/Site charge?

FCT is a free download. Coaches right now receive 94% of their Hired Lesson rate upon full completion.

6. Can Coaches make money with your App/Site? How much?

Coaches can make as much revenue as the market recognizes their brand and expertise. FCT provides all the tools for the Coach to grow their business as described above in point 3 and when a coach posts to the Full Court Feed the Coach has full social media access to brand their name and Logo on all posts they send out. This branding is offered free for a limited time and allows the Coach the opportunity to grow their business.

7. What are future plans and enhancements for your product?

FCT just added a swing lock when comparing strokes side by side to simultaneously move together. Users can change from a right-hander to left-hander and vice versa in any video. A Coach can now add Weekly Rates to get hired.

SevenSix is an award-winning AI-powered mobile app that analyzes tennis swings to help accelerate your training. Website

2. Do you offer desktop/IOS/Android as platforms?

5. How much does the App/Site charge?*

Users can choose between 9 dollars monthly or 100 dollars yearly subscription. (yearly price has a 20% discount for the moment.) In the following month, we are also launching micro- transactions meaning that users who are not ready to commit to a yearly subscription can pay approximately 2 dollars per swing analysis.

6. Can Coaches make money with your App/Site? How much?

We see our concept as an additional tool for coaches to increase their customers' knowledge and engagement. There is no revenue share,  as we would like to offer our product at an efficient price. We have ambassador programs for coaches with yearly free subscriptions.

7. What are future plans and enhancements for your product?

We have just now launched our application on selected Wilson rackets. Inserts with QR codes give customers a tool to improve their technique instantly with their new Wilson racket.

Richer visualization also with the whole player movement compared to the PRO.

Compare technique to your favorite tennis player is also coming up.
