Isla Smith Update

This is what’s been happening since 2015……

  • Nov 2015 Team GB won the Davis Cup and out of this victory the Davis Cup Legacy was born…. TENNIS FOR KIDS. A fantastic campaign from the LTA to attract kids into tennis. I was asked to be one of the National Mentors and spent my days travelling the UK with an incredible team of educators and tennis celebrities to deliver the coach training.

  • TENNIS FOR KIDS continues still with over 80000 children benefitting from the campaign. I was part of the mentor team for the 3 years (2016-2018) that we ran physical coach training.

  • 2015 I was also invited to become a Global Trainer for Cardio Tennis. This was an exciting position which enabled me to travel abroad to deliver the instructor training on behalf of the TIA. My first trip took me to Helsinki, Finland. A beautiful city with hugely hospitable coaches and my first experience teaching where English is not the candidate's first language.

  • I continue to work across the UK as a Coach Education Tutor. Delivering the LTA coach qualifications, CPDs, and workshops. In my most recent E.V visit was awarded ‘outstanding’. My philosophy is all about making learning FUN and creating an environment that supports this. We all learn better when we’re relaxed and enjoying ourselves. Standards are high and so are spirits.

  • 3 years running I have been lucky enough to be part of the LTAs Coach Forum delivery team.

  • For the past 2 years, I’ve been part of the ATP Nitto World Tour Final Ball Kid Coach Team. This involves the selection process and training of the ball kids ahead of the O2 event. Followed by the super tough job of sitting courtside to watch the tennis and make sure the kids are OK.

  • More recently I am part of the LTAs tutor delivery team which are soon to travel the UK delivering coach training on the LTAs brand new, sparkly and shining, not to mention GAME-CHANGING Junior program…. Watch this space as it kicks off in March 2020.

  • One of the most fun experiences in recent years has been consulting for the LTA on tennis-inspired fitness products. This is where my passion truly lies and to work with my best friends to make a difference, all putting our best foot forward is an absolute blessing.

  • In 2019 I was invited to be a ‘Speed Round’ speaker at the RacketEdge conference in Bolton. This is a fantastic conference for tennis S&Cs and coaches.

  • Within my fitness role, I continue to work for Les Mills UK. As an Elite instructor in the programmes I teach, a Tribe Coach (national mentor) to local instructors and a source of support for clubs and centres.

  • I both work as an assessor and Internal Quality Assurer, covering the UK & Middle East.

  • Last year I was selected as a National Fitness Presenter to step on stage and represent Les Mills at the huge Fitness Fiesta event. This was great fun, a fantastic opportunity to work within a fab team, plus I got to meet other National Fitness Presenters and see them in action. I’d not been on the big stage since Alexandra Palace in 2015 due to my role supporting others so enjoyed every second… once I’d dealt with the nerves.
