We featured HARPER FOR KIDS as Tennis Organization of the Month in our November 2014 issue.
Recently, Peanut wrote us a short update:
Since we started Harper for Kids in 2008, we have reached over 75,000 youth. Our entire Character Education program is based on legendary UCLA Coach Wooden’s Pyramid of Success and we are currently working with 75 K-12 schools!
A special part of our programming includes school-wide assemblies on the Pyramid of Success in person and also via zoom video conferencing where we’ve been able to bring in amazing role models (including 12 Olympic gold medalist and champion pro athletes) to share their valuable life lessons that can help the students be successful in all areas of their lives.

Director of Tennis
Works at: City of Irvine
Irvine, California, U.S.A.
We featured Steve Riggs in our February 2014 issue as Tennis Pro of the Month. At the time he was a PTR teaching professional and the City of Irvine's Tennis Program Coordinator. He was responsible for the city's many tennis courts and said, "I love being able to affect and enhance the Irvine tennis community."
Well, affecting he did. Today he is the Director of Tennis and the number of tennis courts has grown to 98 plus 6 pickleball courts. Irvine has become a hotbed of tennis in Southern California, especially after the city added 25 courts in the newly built "Orange County Great Park" on the grounds of the former El Toro Marine Corps Station, which was finished in August of 2017.
Steve says, "I joined the USPTA in May of 2019 and from January 2020 on I'll be the First Vice President of their California Division Board. I'm also in my second term on the Board of the Southern California Tennis Association."
The City now employs 42 tennis professionals and one tennis academy: Brymer Lewis Tennis Academy at the Great Park Tennis Center. The Tennis Industry Association awarded the City of Irvine Tennis Program "Organization of the Year" in 2016. In June 2020, Steve will be organizing the 10th Annual "City of Irvine Tennis Seminar."
Steve is very proud of his children and their tennis accomplishments.
Daughter Mikayla, Freshman on the Woodbridge High School Div II team - they won CIF in 2019.
Son Patrick is a Freshman at the same school and will be on the Varsity Team this year.
The 12-year-old twins Julieanna and Catherine won three JTT League Championships in a row.
We're glad to know that Steve is doing well and keeping tennis alive and hopping in Irvine.
