HEAD, the global sports performance brand has signed a new long-term contract with 2014 US Open champion Marin ČILIĆ, extending the successful relationship into two new categories: Apparel and Footwear. ČILIĆ, who joined the HEAD Pro Player Team in 2008, decided to switch to the SPRINT PRO tennis shoe and the HEAD Sportswear PERFORMANCE LINE after a productive development process with the team at HEAD. “Both shoes and apparel are fantastic,” says Marin. “The Performance Line keeps its promise of delivering high functionality and athletic designs, while the Sprint Pro is incredibly flexible, yet also comfortable and stable. It is really all a tennis player can ask for.” Commenting on an increasingly competitive product portfolio available in all categories, HEAD CEO Johan Eliasch adds: “I am proud to extend the scope of our relationship with Marin.”

The team at HEAD knew that ČILIĆ, who is 1,98m (6 ft 6 in), needed a lot of support during long rallies while retaining the agility to finish the point. The Sprint Pro, a lightweight shoe with Deltra-Straps for lateral stability, delivered against both of these requirements. “I really appreciate the out-of-the-box comfort of the Sprint Pro,” says ČILIĆ, “After ten minutes on the court I could already feel that it suited my game, especially due to its low-to-the-ground, fast feel. That first impression has matched my experience with the shoe, even in long matches, where it has proven to be extremely reliable.”

“We are very excited to see Marin in the HEAD Sportswear Performance Line at all ATP tournaments, effective immediately,” says Roman STEPEK, VP HEAD Sportswear. “Being close to and receiving feedback from a professional player on the Tour allows us to improve our collection with the highest ambitions in mind.” The Performance Line is ideal for athletes who seek the perfect combination of functionality and elegant designs. HEAD decided to extend the line by adding a unique outfit that features colors and elements of the Croatian flag to reflect ČILIĆ’ roots. Completing the portfolio, a red t-shirt was developed for his team, complete with a combination of Marin’s brand and the HEAD Sportswear logos.

Slinger Bag inks distribution deal with Sporting Brands, Chile – the brand’s first foray into the South American market

Slinger Bag (OTC: SLBG), a sports brand focused on innovating game improvement equipment for all ball sports with an initial focus on the global tennis market, has announced a 5 year distribution agreement with Sporting Brands, one of Chile’s most respected and established tennis distribution specialists, with over 30 years in-market experience.

Under the terms of the new partnership, Sporting Brands will be exclusive distributor of the exciting new, game-changing Slinger Bag tennis product in Chile, where it will be launched to tennis consumers from October 2020. The landmark deal is the fast-growing brand’s first distribution partnership in South America and means that Slinger Bag is now represented in every continent across the globe.

Chileans hold tennis in high esteem as it is the country’s most successful sport. At the 2004 Summer Olympics, the country captured gold and bronze in men's singles and gold in men's doubles (Fernando González and Nicolás Massú). Marcelo Ríos became the first Latin American man to reach the number 1 spot in the ATP singles rankings in 1998.

The new announcement follows recent strategic Slinger Bag distribution agreements in other key global tennis markets including a major European deal with Dunlop plus New Zealand, Australia, Japan, UK, Ireland, Switzerland and all four Scandinavian markets.

“We are really pleased we will be playing a major part in Slinger Bag’s phenomenal growth,” said Sporting Brands Commercial Director Fanny Espinoza. “As the first Slinger Bag distributor appointed in South America we will be aiming to create a successful sales template for the region. We have over 30 years’ experience in the tennis industry and can see the great potential of Slinger Bag. Tennis players can now practice whenever and wherever they wish, which expands the game’s appeal.”

“It’s great to be selling in South America and Chile is the perfect place to start with its great tennis heritage and love for the sport. We’re really on the same page with Fanny and her team at Sporting Brands and believe Sporting Brands has the right approach, enthusiasm, reach, and product appreciation to ensure our success in this market, and be an important part of the Slinger Bag success story,” says Mike Ballardie, CEO of Slinger Bag.

Gators to Offer Racquet Sports Director Specialization

as Part of Sport Management Master’s Program

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) and Genesis Health Clubs announced a strategic partnership that brings together the national governing body for tennis in the United States with one of the largest health and tennis club companies in the country.

Through this relationship, both parties will combine resources to continue growing the sport of tennis, with a particular focus on attracting new youth and adult players.

State-of-the-art coaching tools, training, and programming support will be provided to Genesis tennis professionals by the USTA, including access to the USTA’s Net Generation and adult suite of programs and apps to enhance Genesis’ current youth and adult offerings.

Net Generation is the USTA’s youth tennis brand designed to get more kids, ages 5-to-18, playing the sport. Through a smartphone app, coaches and players can connect on practice activities, feedback, and skill assessments at the click of a button.  Genesis tennis professionals also will gain access to USTA coaching curriculums, which include video lesson plans and activities to bolster their current lesson plans.

“Partnering with Genesis Health Clubs helps support our mission of growing tennis by combining top quality USPTA and PTR certified coaches with introductory and fitness-based tennis activities,” said Michael Dowse, USTA Chief Executive Officer & Executive Director. “With an expanding and newly renovated tennis club network throughout the Midwest, Genesis has built an industry-wide reputation for creative programming that leads to exceptional growth and player retention.  We’re very excited to be working together.”

With more than 54 Health Clubs in over six states, Genesis Health Clubs continues to grow and expand its health, wellness, and fitness outreach. Its tennis footprint has expanded with 15 tennis facilities that are led by more than 90 tennis professionals, impacting thousands of people by involving them in tennis.

“We’re very excited to be working together to ‘grow the game’ of tennis,” said Rodney Steven, CEO / President of Genesis Health Clubs. “It is a privilege to partner with the USTA and be at the forefront of the tennis and health industry. Our goals and missions are aligned to achieve the best experience and to provide the conduit into the communities that Genesis serves. I played throughout college and all six of my kids were positively impacted by the game through high school and collegiate tennis.”

“When you combine the USTA, Genesis, and the game of tennis, you have the makings of a powerful team that will grow and better the tennis landscape in so many ways, said Mike Woody, Vice President, National Director of Tennis at Genesis Health Clubs. “Our goal at Genesis Tennis is to make a difference through tennis within our facilities, outside our facilities, and in every community we serve.”

As part of this new partnership with the USTA, all Genesis tennis professionals will engage in and support the USTA’s Net Generation youth brand by registering, creating a coaching profile, and becoming SafePlay compliant to help parents find a safe, high-quality tennis coach for their children.

“We’re thrilled that Genesis will be utilizing Net Generation in their youth tennis programming,” said Craig Morris, USTA Chief Executive, Community Tennis. “The Net Generation curriculum is all based on the American Development Model (ADM) to develop physical literacy and athletic development while supporting local coaches as they strive to deliver a fantastic on-court experience for kids.”

The USTA and Genesis Health Clubs also will collaborate on ways to attract more adult players to the sport through a range of new competitive and social leagues, tournaments, and team events.
